Story
A promising weather forecast found me at the Snake early in the morning , and sunny shafts through the cloud as I went up Fairbrook confirmed its accuracy . Unfortunately that meant the wind forecast could be relied on too and it was indeed quite blustery and persistently strong . But for March , exceptionally springlike. And it turned out to be an exceptional day . This route covers most of the well-known landmarks . Navigation is straightforward , though I would advise novice navigators to ensure they are capable of crossing from Fairbrook to Grindsbrook in low visibility . My route at the end heads 'straight' down to the valley path rather than following the usual path from the nose . This is simply because it was a) very wet , and b)approaching sundown . I would rather be on a lower and better defined path if in twilight or the dark . As always , the final choice of route is down to the individual , not the guidebook .
Parking is available at the lay-by below the Snake Inn on the Sheffield side .
