Story
Almost perfect weather today ; a relief after the seemingly incessant greyness and downpour of 2012 to date . A little haze , but that is nit-picking .
I saw nobody until I got to the motorway routes from Edale ; luckily the massed parties were heading towards the west and doubtless the honeypot of the Downfall . They would be sorely disappointed given the distinct lack of water which had made the crossing from Fairbrook via Crowden Head a doddle .
The eastern half was effectively deserted with magnificent views . For those inclined , Crookstone Knoll is easily visited from this route , but I always think it fares better as a high point on walks via Hope Brink . After a long break at Madwoman's Stones (yes, that kind of day) the walk along Blackden Edge and descent down to Gate Side Clough completed a memorable day . Or so I thought until an obliging lizard posed for me on the shooters path .
Walking Kinder with just a guide book , no matter how well the route is described , can be disastrous . As the gentleman who thought he was heading to Crookstone Moor from Golden Clough as he strode towards Grindsbrook discovered . And crossing Kinder needs a compass . Unlike a GPS it can be trusted when stationary .
