Story

Disregard the GPS timings , the trip actually took from about 2.30 am to 4pm if you do it as I did . Mind you , there was a lot of sitting about involved .I wanted to see the 70th anniversary flypast for Operation Chastise at the dams , and after experience of the traffic on similar occasions previously I thought parking at the A57 lay-by and walking in from Cutthroat Bridge made sense . And so it proved . In fact , I had plenty of time to play with . But worth it  . The walk down also guaranteed that the traffic queues down from the dams were avoided , and that the drive home was painless too .The weather was perfect , the plane shots as good as can be expected on point and shoot , and perhaps I wish I'd taken a tripod when I was trying to shoot the valley cloud in the dark on 8 sec handheld . But I'm a walker first , and my camera is adequate rather than comprehensive nowadays . Nevertheless , I hope you find some of the images on this trip as satisfying as I do .

Despite the shirt-sleeve weather at mid-day , standing water was frozen on the tops before dawn . And since the moon was just a thin crescent and set at 1am , a good headtorch was handy for the ascent . Worth bearing in mind for anyone new to the moors and mountains .
