Story

This hike was supposed to be done in one morning but was interrupted and completed two days later. It starts and ends along the RN2 in the south of the island. That place can easily be reached by bus. Several short cuts along the path can be taken to get back on the RN2 at any time. We are never far from the sea although, most of the time, at about 30 to 40 meters above the sea level. Vacoas (Pandanus utilis) are abundant in this part of the island and are still used to make handicraft. The fruits form a starchy food and can also be eaten after cooked. The first half which ends at "Puits Arabe" (a nice place for picnicking) is somehow a bit "wilder" and dryer that the second part which is more "tropical" and humid. Apart from vacoas, goyaviers (strawberry guava) and vanilla are also found all along the path. As for the fauna, frogs, crabs and paille-en-queue (White-tailed Tropicbird) can also be observed.
