Story

A 'wandering' trip - I set off with the intention to go via Lost Lad , visit the Abbey Brook gorge , and return via Howden Edge . Much would depend on the weather , as opposed to the forecasts .As it was the day started in mist , and I found an unexpected fence . The recent heavy rains weren't too much of a worry 24 hours after their passing ; but the Abbey Gorge path I found  more treacherous than I liked , and with blustery winds and running water at the turn , I retreated and went over the top .The weather continued to improve , I had a close encounter with a mountain hare bounding past me at arms distance just beyond Low Tor (too fast for camera unfortunately) , and the views over Derwent clear . Murky to the south , and a strong wind in the face on descent , but no complaints for October .A final touch , pleasant or not depending on taste was the overflight of a Tornado GR1 by Nether Hay , low enough to see the pilot as they say .  I imagine the effect  upon a resting walker on Lost Lad would be even more dramatic .

This is not intended as walk guide , but may give some thoughts . Most of the walking is rough ; be prepared for for it. The Abbey gorge path is very narrow and quite exposed.  As always ,these are moors ,not mountain , but still need a little thought .
