Story

Or a walk up the Derwent .Strictly speaking I suppose , Swains Greave isn't the damp hollow I think of as the start of the Derwent . At least , according to the OS map . But there is no other name , and it does as well as any .
It was a fairly showery and windy day , and my  plan was to go up to the the Barrow Stones following the river in its latter stages , then play it by ear depending on weather . Let's just say that a return by Round Hill and Linch Clough seemed the prudent choice .
So I wandered around and behind the stones for a while - no hardship , I enjoy the strange charms of  the maze of groughs and channels up here , while there is always variety in the Barrow Stones .
A good day .
